The Bungy Experience
When you jump with us, you leave with a good feeling about
yourself. It's an incredibly positive experience.
The life of our company comes from people who get a huge
sense of acheivement from completing a jump. They have pushed
beyond and extended their personal limits. We give people
the opportunity to experience a totally uncensored rush
of emotional energy; they laugh; they scream; they sometimes
cry. Most importantly they change their own lives through
a greater sense of self worth and achievement.
The result is similar for most people - it's a massive
boost to their self esteem and they feel great!
That's the bungy experience, and understanding it ourselves
from personal experience is what makes us the world leaders
and international pioneers in personal challenge.
When
you are standing on the platform about to step off into
15 storeys of nothing but thin air, you will be thinking
to yourself "Why am I here?", "What am I doing this for?",
"Will I be OK?". All you need to do is trust our jump crew
- they know what to do!
We've notched up nearly 1 million safe jumps and all of
our sites and staff training programmes conform to a rigorous
code of practice. Our gear is always individually tested
prior to use, and constantly monitored during use. Safe?
Hey, we know what we are talking about!
Challenge yourself, and have one of the most intense, exhilarating
and rewarding rushes you may ever have, or could possibly
imagine.
Bungy in Cairns
The
Cairns operation is in the tropics of North Queensland between
the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest. The
50 metre Cairns bungy tower is situated 15 km north of the
city on the foothills of Saddle Mountain and surrounded
by lush tropical rainforest.
The site took 3 months to develop with a 5 metre, man-made
pool of water beneath the jump, and spectacular views of
Green Island and the Great Barrier Reef coastline.
We also have sites in Kuta - Bali, Las Vegas - USA, Normandie
- France and Queenstown - New Zealand.

About A.J. Hackett
(The Man)
In
1986 I saw a video of some young English thrillseekers called
the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club doing a couple
of jumps in England in the late seventies. They based their
jumps on the manhood ritual of Pentecost Island where the
young guys jump from 35 metre towers with vines tied around
their feet.
The imagination really kicked in, and it was off to develop
a safe, standard method of jumping. A friend, Chris Sigglekow,
and I decided to follow a rule that only if a method proved
to be consistently workable, would we continue to pursue
it.
Using local bridges in the North Island of New Zealand
as testing platforms, we took the height of the bridge,
the size of the cord and the weight of the person, and began
to test how predictable we could make this bungy jumping
thing. After 3 years of testing we figured that we had the
parameters nailed down.
In 1987 I went skiing in France and just couldn't help
myself. There was this bridge called the Ponts de la Caille,
near Annecy, that spanned a 147 metre deep gorge so I did
a jump off it using our new bungy cord.
This began a series of spectacular and extreme jumps around
Tignes in France, including one from a gondola 91 metres
up.
Then
in June 1987 it was off to Paris to do the jump that really
grabbed the world's attention, and showed that the cord
system worked, and that it was safe - The Eiffel Tower.
In 1988 I opened the first AJ Hackett Bungy jump site
in Ohakune, New Zealand.
In 1990, I did a 300m jump from a helicopter as a world
first to celebrate the opening of my new site in Normandie,
France. Not only was it a world first but it also re-affirmed
my company's position as the pioneers in bungy jumping.
Heli-bungy took off as the most extreme form of bungy adventure
yet, but still within a safe and quality assured environment.
I think that's the key to the success of what I've been
dedicating myself to for all these years - pushing the envelope
on adrenalin rush without compromising safety.
My company focuses on the highest quality professional
services, innovation and resource sustainability to ensure
maximum personal enjoyment and reward for everybody. But
above all, we make it safe without taking the edge off the
buzz.
You will come away from one of my unique sites with a memory
that will be with you forever - you did something you believed
you couldn't do. Use this experience to enhance other areas
of your life.
